Gene Bowman, N.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Bowman is a naturopathic doctor and clinical researcher. His clinical interests include the practice of complementary and alternative forms of medicine to promote healthy aging and wellness. He has particular interests in helping people prevent and manage neurological, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal disorders associated with aging. He is also a faculty member and brain researcher at Oregon Health & Science University Brain Institute's Department of Neurology. He is regarded as a national expert on diet and nutrition for memory and thinking abilities, healthy brain aging and Alzheimer’s prevention. His research is supported by the National Institutes of Health.
His scientific publications on diet and brain health have been covered by local, national and international media including The New York Times, The Huffington Post, The Times of London, TIME magazine, The Oregonian, The Osgood File CBS News Radio, OPB's Think Out Loud and hundreds of other outlets. Dr. Bowman frequently presents on bioactive foods and nutritional factors related to Alzheimer’s, cognitive function and healthy aging. He is affiliated with the American Academy of Neurology, American Society for Nutrition, American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and a National Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine. He also serves a an associate editor for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and is a visiting professor and scientist at the National College of Natural Medicine.
Prior to embarking on the long journey to become a doctor of medicine and nutritional neuroscientist, Gene was an All-America student athlete (soccer). He also played two years of professional soccer after college in the mid-nineties in Virginia, just before Major League Soccer began in America. Now as a washed-up x-pro, he continues to balance his work life with soccer. He also enjoys jogging, cycling to work, skiing, listening to live music and sharing meals, and hearty laughs with friends and family.
